A Tiger for punishment |

|
We crossed from Thailand's Golden Triangle into Myanmar (Burma). In the village of Tachilek we could have purchased 150 tiger and leopard skins in one street. India, main home to the world's diminishing tiger population, estimates that there are only some 3,000 tigers left! This dramatically illustrates the poaching and killing that goes on.
Much of the decimation is because of Chinese medicinial use of tiger-parts. In Tachilek the street stalls were also selling a claimed aphrodisiac of dried bear gall bladders and tiger penises. It's questionable whether it helps the person drinking this cocktail, but it certainly doesn't do much for the tiger's life expectancy. |
