The Vasa – Time Capsule From Centuries Gone By |
|
| The 10th of August, 1628, was frozen in time when the Vasa, Sweden’s gigantic new warship, sank at the start of her maiden voyage. When salvaged more than 330 years later, barrels of meat, fully packed sea chests and the officers’ pewter dinner service were found intact. Even the remains of the ship’s cat were still on board. The artefacts found in this vessel provided a window into a Swedish sailor’s life in the 17th century, as this article reveals. Article available in two lengths (1250 words or 1800 words). |
