Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is arguably the most beautiful building in the world.
When the beauty of a building brings tears to the eyes of a hardened travel writer like myself, that building must be very special.

And the Taj Mahal certainly is that!

We visited this fabulous building and the article gives the personal impressions of what we felt and saw, as well as the building’s history, which to our mind is as romantic as the architecture itself. The article starts with my personal impressions as we approached and entered this wonder of the architectural world, and then goes on to tell the story of Shah Jahan, the King who built this monument to his favourite wife Mumtaz Mahal, in the process alienating one of his sons who, as evil as he was ambitious, wanted to be King. This son murdered his older brothers, installed himself as King, and put his father under house arrest, from where he could see, but not visit the monument he had built for his wife’s tomb.
