Right Royal Shopping - Handicrafts in Thailand |
Mechanisation and mass-production has meant that the wonderful crafts of Thailand have been dying out. The Queen of Thailand became very conscious of the problems to the villagers whose traditional employment has been these handicrafts. Setting aside a corner of the Thai Royal Palace, she organised 'The Support Foundation' and gave it the task of revitalising these traditional skills.
Teaching programs have been established so that the skills are passed on from one generation to the next. The scheme has been so successful that there is a series of shops selling the resulting products to Thais and tourists alike. |
