Komodo Dragons - Indonesia's Real-life Jurassic Park

An adult Komodo dragon. Three metres of potentially lethal dinosaur-power. Note the forked tongue!
On a remote island in the Indonesian chain the Komodo Dragons, last descendants of the dinosaurs, are alive and well --- and deadly dangerous. We took a cruise on a wooden yacht, the Perintis, and saw these carnivorous, crocodile-sized lizards in their natural habitat. When our guide threw a large fish to one of these Komodo Dragons we found that the dragon could move, at least for short distances, at the speed of a gazelle!

The article accounts our personal experience and gives some details of the largest remaining relative of the dinosaurs.

The ‘Perintis’, a fabulous way to visit Komodo.
