The Hanging Coffins of Bawusia Gorge

The coffin that was hidden in the cliff-face for centuries.
In the Three Gorges region of the Yangtse River we travelled up a tributary to find the hanging coffins of Bawusia.   2,000 years ago these were placed high on a cliff, in such a way that scientists even today cannot figure out how they were put into these locations.   When the Chinese archeologists eventually brought some of these coffins down the cliff face, they received a great surprise.   With each of the men buried who had died of natural causes, a woman had been killed and put in the coffin to "provide company" into the spirit world.   The article describes the gorge where we saw the coffins, and then the museum where some of the coffins and their contents are on display.
