Chiemsee - mad King Ludwig's other folly

Herrenchiemsee, King Ludwig's replica of Versaille.
Most travellers know about King Ludwig's Schloss Neuschwanstein, the fairytale castle that inspired Walt Disney's centrepiece at Disneyland. But few know that he also built a replica of the Palace of Versailles and placed this on the island of Chiemsee, located between Salzburg and Munich. He died before it could be finished, but it is now a national monument, and well worth a visit.
