The Chicago River now flows backwards - it was reversed by engineers in 1900 in order to utilise it for sanitation purposes. However, nothing else runs backwards in this, the third largest city in America. Chicago is home to one of the world's tallest buildings, has a gross regional product of more than Taiwan, and is a hub for industry, commerce and business for North America.
