The Chevaliers du Tastevin is a remarkable organisation, its ranks filled with members of the French Academy, foreign ambassadors to France, Generals, Nobel prize winners, industrialists, doctors, ex-presidents, European royalty – the list is like a World Directory of Who's Who, and they all belong to this interesting organization.
One cannot apply to become a member – it's by invitation only, and membership means being able to attend the 600 person dinners at the Chevaliers headquarters, the Chateau du Clos de Vougeot, a vast Chateau, once a Cistercian Monastery, erected in 1551. The 2100 word article gives the history of the Chevaliers and how this organisation, founded with the purpose of spreading the fame of Burgundian wine around the world, has now spread to other continents. |
