| This most highly-prized sauterne in the world, is produced under very stringent conditions. Thomas Jefferson considered it the best sweet wine in France, introducing it to George Washington for whom it also became a favourite. It became the Tsar's favourite dessert wine at the Russian Court. Stalin wanted to take cuttings from this vineyard to the Crimea, so enchanted was he with Chateau D'Yquem.
